Register now for the BES LTER 20th Anniversary Meeting



Dear Members, Collaborators, and Friends of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study,

Please join us for the 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study (BES) Long-Term Ecological Research Program. Events include the BES Graduate Student Symposium and Social Hour on 23 October, the Research Conference on Wednesday and Thursday, 24-25 October, and the BES Community Open House on 24 October.

The BES Graduate Student Symposium, the first event of the Annual Meeting, is an opportunity for students to informally share their BES research with each other and veteran BES Investigators, network, and explore possibilities to collaborate. Location: Hotel Indigo, James Ryder Randall Room, Baltimore, MD.
The Symposium will be followed by a BES Social at Maisy’s. The Social is an opportunity for students and researchers to engage in a casual neighborhood setting. Light fare and soft drinks provided. Cash bar for all other beverages.

The Research Conference shares updates and results of project investigations with all BES collaborators, interested researchers, educators, local, state and federal agency representatives, media, and community members. We are fortunate this year to have Dr. Nancy Grimm, Senior Sustainability Scientist, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, Virginia M. Ullman Professor of Ecology, Arizona State University and Co-Director, Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network give the Keynote speech. Location: University of Baltimore, Learning Commons Town Hall & Lobby, 1415 Maryland Ave, Baltimore, MD 21201

The Community Open House is a casual event co-hosted by BES and the Parks & People Foundation to share BES research with Baltimore residents. This year's Open House theme is Urban Sustainability Innovations. We will be highlighting local work and providing an opportunity for Baltimore-based projects to share their information. We are pleased to be holding this year’s Open House at the American Visionary Art Museum, Sculpture Barn and Wildflower Garden, 820 Key Highway, Baltimore, Maryland 21230. Attendees will have access to the main collection of the museum for the duration of the event. Complimentary refreshments, including small bites and soft drinks will be served. Local brewery RavenBeer will be pouring their beer and ale for attendees 21 and older.

Registration
There is no fee to attend these meetings but registration is requested to help us accommodate everyone comfortably.
Registration is open until 10/18/18 but we are no longer accepting meal orders. Please select the "No Meals" option in the form.

Research Conference Meals:
Coffee will be available for all attendees. Breakfast and lunch will be available onsite both days for those that have pre-paid. We cannot guarantee the availability of meals if you have not paid in advance. You are not required to purchase meals to attend the Research Conference.

Meal options:
Please note: all food is vegetarian with some vegan/gluten free options.

Research presentations
If you have gathered research as a part of or particularly relevant to, the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, you are invited to present a 15-minute talk or a poster summarizing your results.

For those that have submitted abstracts, please upload all presentation and poster files to the BES Dropbox by Friday, 19 October. You will not be able to use your own laptop for your presentation. If you are unable to load your talk by 19 October, please download onto a PC compatible jump drive.

Posters: You are welcome to bring your posters and put them up Wednesday morning, prior to the start of the meeting. Poster presenters are invited to contribute to the “lightning round” by sharing a single slide of the poster and speaking for a maximum of two minutes about the poster, before lunch on Wednesday. More in-depth discussion can take place with presenters at their poster following lunch.
